Are Your Window Treatments Child Safe??

Child Safety Window Treatments

Child safety in the home is always on the mind's of all parents. With the growing technology in today's modern home, there are more threats than ever! Luckily, most of the basics have been taken care of through innovation. Take for instance the cabinet locks from when I was a kid that kept me out of the chemicals underneath the sink. It's probably because of those I'm still around to write this post! But on a more serious note, child safety innovation is so important in protecting our families.

A growing risk in child fatalities is due to unsafe window treatments in the home. According to The Window Covering Safety Council (WCSC), more than 200 infants and young children have died of strangulation from dangling window cords since 1990.

Luckily, children no longer have to fall victim to dangling cords from window treatments. Many quality window treatment providers now carry cordless shades. These shades usually work in two different ways. First, you can go the high-tech route and go motorized. This simply means the blinds or shades have a built in motor that allows the window treatment to go up and down with a push of button. On the other hand, there are also regular cordless shades usually referred to as roller shades. Roller shades adjust by pulling the shade down to the desired height much like a screen projector. No matter which route you decide to go, you will sleep a little better knowing your children are safe from one less household danger.
